Cycling Friendly Holidays at the Yorkshire Coast

If you love Cycling and enjoy trips to 'Centre Parcs', but wish they had a site located near the sea then Sea Fern is for you!

Sea Fern is a newly renovated cycle friendly holiday cottage near Robin Hood's Bay and it's 300m from a 21 mile re-purposed railway line called the Cinder Track. This traffic free route runs from Scarborough to Whitby, through the North York Moors National Park and there are vast sections where you will get uninterrupted view of the stunning North Yorkshire coast.

I fell in love with the Cinder Track when I was 19 during a visit to Whitby with my then boyfriend (now Husband).  We hired bikes and travelled from Hawsker to Ravenscar via Robin Hood's Bay.  My Husband and I soon started racing at the pure joy of rediscovering our childhood hobby, cycling!  Despite, falling off in style (over the handlebars and into some brambles) I was hooked and when we had children we brought them to Robin Hood’s Bay to cycle sections of the Cinder Track with us.

We've cycled other popular traffic free cycle routes with our family including the Tissington Trail in Derbyshire and the Camel Trail in Cornwall both of which I would highly recommend.  Although, our favorite and the one we return to year after year is The Cinder Track in North Yorkshire.  With the exception of Centre Parcs, booking a family cycling trip has always involved meticulous planning to ensure we have somewhere safe to store the bikes and that we can get to our cycle route easily without having to negotiate busy roads.  Sometimes it's hard work and I've considered specialist companies like Skedaddle who do the planning and organising for you.  However, this can be costly.  We set up Sea Fern, because it's the sort of accommodation that we would have been so pleased to have found when our children were young.  Traffic free cycling on your doorstep, secure storage for your bikes, tools for any maintenance required and a hose pipe for washing them down when you return muddy exhausted and exhilarated!

We've even found an amazing company in Scarborough called Bayhire that will drop hire bikes off at the Cottage.  They also offer a Shuttle bus service.  Why not collect bikes in Scarborough, cycle back to Sea Fern and arrange collection and shuttle transfer to collect your car from Scarborough (or you could just send Dad and chill out with a movie until he gets back).

I hope you've enjoyed reading this blog and that it inspires you to explore family cycling holiday ideas outside of the safety net of 'Centre Parcs' and 'Skedaddle'.

Come stay with us at Sea Fern Cottage and keep exploring Jill x
